1. Introduction

Nen (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is an offline music player for Android and iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information Nen accesses on your device and how it is used.

Summary: Nen works completely offline. It does not collect, record, track, transmit, or monetize any personal information or audio files.

2. Information We Access

Nen is designed to work entirely offline. The app accesses only the following items on your local device:

  • Audio Files: Reads stored audio files to display your music library, read metadata (titles, artists, album artwork), and play tracks. On Android 13+, this uses READ_MEDIA_AUDIO. On older versions, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is used. On iOS, Media Library access is requested.
  • App Preferences: Settings you configure — such as theme, accent color, playback speed, crossfade, favorite tracks, and playlists — are stored strictly on your device via SharedPreferences and a local SQLite database.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

Nen does not:

  • Collect, transmit, or store personal data or telemetry on external servers
  • Require user accounts, registration, or logins
  • Include analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs
  • Access contacts, location, camera, microphone, or hardware sensors
  • Make background internet connections
  • Share any data with third parties

4. Device Permissions

Nen requests only the minimum necessary permissions to index and play local audio:

READ_MEDIA_AUDIO Android 13+ Scan audio files on your device to build your local music library.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Android 12 and below Access audio files on older Android versions.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK Android Keep audio playing with lock-screen and notification controls.
WAKE_LOCK Android Prevent device sleep while audio is actively streaming.
Media Library iOS Access on-device music library when running on iOS.

5. Local Data Storage

All playlists, favorites, and settings are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data.

6. Third-Party Services

Nen does not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or cloud analytics services. The audio engine is powered by ExoPlayer and executes on-device.

7. Children's Privacy

Nen does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is safe for all ages and complies with the Google Play Families Policy.
